現在、インフラ整備から始まり、基礎工事、躯体工事と着実に進む建築地にて、建築主・現地工務店・左官職人との打合せを行いました
望月のメインの一つとなる議題は、弊社オリジナルは配合となり提案しています

本来使用している左官材料は、アメリカの輸入規制の関係で現地へ送ることができません
そのため、これまで試行錯誤を重ねてきた独自配合のレシピを開示し、アメリカ国内で入手可能な材料を用いて、いかに近い質感と表情を再現するかを協議
素材が変われば、塗り味も、乾燥後の肌合いも変わります
伝統技術とは、単に材料や工法を運ぶことではなく、その背景にある考え方や感覚を伝え、現地の環境に合わせて再構築していくことと考えています
職人同士が意見を交わしながらサンプルを製作し、一つひとつ確認を重ねる時間は、国や言葉を越えて「ものづくり」の本質に触れる貴重な機会となっています
日本で培われた左官技術の表現を、ポートランドの地でどこまで昇華できるか楽しみです
Day 2 of My Stay in Portland
I held a meeting with the client, the local contractor, and the plasterers at the construction site, where work is progressing steadily—starting with infrastructure development, followed by foundation work and structural framing.
One of the main topics for Mochizuki was our proprietary plaster mix, which we are proposing

Due to U.S. import restrictions, we are unable to ship the plastering materials we normally use to the site.
Therefore, we shared our proprietary recipe—developed through extensive trial and error—and discussed how to reproduce a texture and appearance as close as possible using materials available within the U.S.
When the materials change, both the application feel and the texture after drying will change.
We believe that traditional craftsmanship is not simply about transporting materials or techniques, but about conveying the underlying philosophy and sensibilities, and reconstructing them to suit the local environment.
The time spent by craftsmen exchanging ideas while creating samples and meticulously checking each one provides a valuable opportunity to touch upon the essence of “craftsmanship” that transcends national borders and language barriers.
We look forward to seeing how far we can elevate the expression of plastering techniques cultivated in Japan right here in Portland.
