ポートランド滞在 7日目
滞在中は、建築主様ならびに戸田工務店会長と共に、丹羽さんの通訳を介し
依頼となっています住宅のそれぞれの担当階について毎日長時間にわたり打合せを重ねました
望月が担当する2階は、今回のプロジェクトにおいて最も神聖で重要とされる空間といわれており
その設計・デザインをまとめるにあたり、いつも通りに打合せで交わされる言葉だけでなく
何気ない会話や表情の変化からも想いを汲み取り、詰め将棋のようにプランを練り上げていきます
求められているのは、神社様式そのものでもなく、また数寄屋様式そのものでもない
しかしながら『 本物 』と感じる空間を目指し、シンプルかつスタイリッシュに『 和 』を表現すること
望月が提唱する『 伝統の進化 』を、アメリカの地で具現化するかけがえのない機会だと感じています
さらに、現地アメリカ人大工達に伝統技術とその精神を伝えることで
新たな継承への一歩となればと願いながら、帰国の途につきます
建築主様のお取り計らいにより、往復の飛行機ならびに宿泊も快適に過ごさせていただき、心より感謝申し上げます
そして、引き篭もりの私にコラボレーションのお声掛けをくださった
戸田工務店様、丹羽様に深く感謝すると共に、本プロジェクトを成功へと導いてまいりたいと思います
Day 7 in Portland
During my stay, I held lengthy daily meetings with the client and the Chairman of Toda Construction, facilitated by Mr. Niwa’s interpretation, to discuss the specific floors of the commissioned residence each of us was responsible for.
The second floor, designed by Mochizuki, is considered the most sacred and important space in this project.
To finalize its design, we not only focused on the words exchanged during formal meetings but also carefully interpreted thoughts conveyed through casual conversations and subtle changes in expression, refining the plan like solving a shogi puzzle.
What is sought is neither strictly shrine style nor strictly sukiya style.
Rather, it aimed to create a space that felt authentic, expressing Japanese aesthetics in a simple yet stylish manner.
Mochizuki felt this was an irreplaceable opportunity to embody his concept of ‘the evolution of tradition’ on American soil.
Furthermore, as I return home, I hope that by imparting traditional techniques and their spirit to local American carpenters, we may take a step toward a new form of inheritance.
To the client, I express my heartfelt gratitude for the thoughtful consideration shown throughout my journey, from travel arrangements to my stay.
And to Toda Construction and Mr. Niwa, who extended this collaboration invitation to me, a recluse, I offer my deepest thanks. Together, we will guide this project to success.
